Night Float

Good and bad news. The good. I uploaded a few more galleries, including our trip to Moab earlier this Spring. You can check it out on the new images page or directly here. You can also find a list of site updates here. The bad. I start night float today for the next two weeks. Basically, I supervise the interns overnight. Hopefully it will be quick and painless. Anyway… I hope to get a few more pics uploaded this next week. I still have our two trips to Mexico, Bryce canyon, and wedding pics. Pic at left is of Delicate Arch in Arches National Park, outside of Moab, UT.

SenorJason update

Looking back at SenorJason today I found that I had not added a gallery since January. Nine months! So, today I added The Pfeifferhorn. I’ve also started using ‘Gallery Wizard’ to improve the look and navigation. Looking at the white board I have 11 more potential photo collections that could be uploaded… Pic at left is the view west from atop Pfeifferhorn.

Megan and I dusted off our hiking boots and climbed the pfeifferhorn this last weekend. It’s one of the tallest peaks of the Alpine Ridge, the southern edge of Little Cottonwood Canyon. At 11,326 feet (Mt. Hood is 11,249 ft) it gave us a good view of pretty much everything. It’s also known as Little Matterhorn… I guess we don’t have to go to Switzerland now. More pics to be added on here and SenorJason this weekend.

Well, intern year is almost over. Two more weeks and I will finally be in charge of my own interns and can dish out the scut work to them. Sweet. I start in the ICU at the University again this year. Not the place to start as a brand new resident. The pic at left is from a big storm over the Oquirrh mountains. Should have Moab pictures posted later this week.

Moab

Megan and I spent a couple of days over at Moab earlier this month. We found a great campsite right on the Colorado River for only $8/night. We started our drive right as Megan got home from night shift. Amazingly she stayed up through the entire day and even got some hiking in at Arches. 36 hours awake is pretty decent. It also provided me with some pretty sweet pictures of Megan looking haggard… unfortunately I am not allowed to share these pictures. The second day we traveled around the Needles district of Canyonlands. The third day we hiked the Devil’s Garden trail at the end of the main road in Arches. Great hike! Later that day we hit up the Island in the Sky district of Canyonlands and watched the sunset at Mesa Arch… pics at left. We are standing above the arch, which is not pictured well to the right. More pics to come.

Good ol’ days

I’ve neglected the blog again for quite a long period of time it seems. I don’t have any good recent pics, but I found this one from 1998 trip to Williamsburg, Virginia. We should have had one of these growing up.

I’m currently working in the ED this month. Sometimes there are good cases, but most of the people that come in are simply crazy. Glad I didn’t decide on Emergency Medicine. We got another six inches of snow at our house overnight, hopefully the last snow of winter. We are ready to start our spring and summer activities. Although the two, 3 foot powder days were nothing to complain about.

Snow

For anyone contemplating on coming out here this winter… we got 7+ feet of snow in the mountains last week. I’ve been stuck on nightfloat so haven’t enjoyed much of it (other than the faceplant). I plan on getting in a lot more XC these next 2 weeks. It’s hard to fit alpine skiing in without a season pass since most the resorts close at 4 PM. Maybe next year. Megan and I still need to hit up Alta and Solitude this year. Pic at left is from Bryce. I’ll try to get a panorama stitched sometime soon. Then I’ll get off this Bryce kick.

Mexico

We have vacation coming up in 3 weeks. Just bought tix to Cancun. Will be a bit of a change from the mountains and snow. It has dumped a couple of feet of snow up in the mountains and Megan and I went up to Brighton resort last night to get in on the powder. It was pretty fun, but my skis are not powder skis. I hit a deep powder pocket on a flat area, sunk to my waist in it, popped out of my skis and face planted. Good times. The pic at left is from Capitol Reef National Park. No face plant pics exist…

Night Float

I’ve been on night float for the past week and have one more week to go. Basically means I work from 1830 to 0630 admitting patients to the hospital and covering all the patients that are already there while the rest of my fellow residents go home for some sleep. Megan and I are trying to plan our next vacation which comes up in 3 weeks after I take my last board exam. Not sure where we are headed yet. The pic at left is from our Bryce trip… sunset shot taken from sunrise point. You’ll see a couple more Bryce shots popping up on here before too long.

New pics

I was checking up on SenorJason today and found that my last update over there was 5 months ago. Too long. So I added a new gallery from a November hike up Grandeur Peak accessed from Mill Creek Canyon. Check it out here. Megan’s friend Lindsay was in town visiting. We were commenting about the air quality being bad in the valley back then. It was amazingly clear compared to what it has been the last couple weeks. With the week of snow in our future hopefully the inversion will be gone until next year.

I spent some of the day looking back through photos over the last 6 months. I think I have enough for about 6 new galleries. So if there is anyone out there wanting new photos, maybe I’ll be able to get a couple up a week for the next little while.

The pics at left are from our trip to Bryce and Capitol Reef a week ago. The top one is a pano of Capitol Reef from Hwy 12 as the park came into view. The Henry Mountains are in the background. The bottom pic is of Megan looking at some petroglyphs at Capitol Reef.
